Concerts
Our first concert of 2026 opens with the overture from Dame Ethel Smyth's opera The Boatswain's Mate, edited by our friend Peter Fender. A well-known British composer in the early 20th century, and prominent suffragette, Smyth's work was neglected for decades before coming back to prominence in the last few years. We're delighted to welcome one of the UK's most promising emerging musicians, Karolina Csáthy, as our soloist for Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1. It's a work which combines high drama, beautiful melodies and fiery energy. No wonder it’s one of the most popular and widely performed concertos in the repertoire. The second half of the concert features Brahms Symphony No. 3. Underrated by comparison with Brahms' other symphonies, the enigmatic nature of this piece has led to much discussion about its true meaning. Perhaps it comes closest of all his works to being an inner portrait of the complex figure who was among the greatest of symphonic composers.
Advance tickets for this concert are available now via the link to the left, and remaining tickets will be available on the door on the night. Directions to St Cyprian's Church can be found on our Venues page.
We are able to take card payments on the night (as well as payments in cash), but advance booking is recommended! All seating is unreserved, and doors open at 6.45pm.
