Hana Mizuta-Spencer - Violin
Hana Mizuta-Spencer is an exceptional British violinist and chamber musician. Hana performs regularly, and has played in prestigious venues including LSO St Lukes, Wigmore Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields and St John’s Smith Square. She is kindly supported through her studies by the Stiftung Melinda Esterhazy de Galantha.
Hana was inspired to become a violinist at the age of 7 after attending performances by Vadim Repin and Sarah Chang, and developed a love for chamber music at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music. It was there that Hana won the Junior, Intermediate and Senior John McAslan Violin Prizes. Following a degree in History at University College London, she went on to study for a Masters in Violin Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Professor David Takeno. She was awarded a Concert Recital Diploma in recognition of her exceptional final recital and was a Junior Fellow there in 2021. She is now studying for a Soloist Masters in Basel with Barbara Doll.
As a soloist, Hana has performed with the North London Symphony Orchestra, Oxford Symphony Orchestra and the Piccadilly Sinfonietta amongst others. When she last performed the Bloch Violin Concerto, a reviewer described her performance as “ravishing” and “enthralling”. She has had masterclasses with teachers including Philippe Graffin, Igor Ozim and Krzysztof Wegrzyn. She won the inaugural Prix Pasquier, as well as two other awards at the Ravel Festival in September 2023. She is an avid chamber musician and has performed with the Esbjerg Ensemble and Ensemble Modern, as well as attending festivals such as Open Chamber Music in Prussia Cove, Frinton Festival and Mendelssohn on Mull. She co-led the Fantasia Orchestra at the BBC Proms 2024. Hana plays on a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, Guarneri del Gesu model.
We performed Ernest Bloch's Violin Concerto with Hana for our November 2024 concert.
